Full Version: What's In Your Garden?

So far, DH (who does all the work of gardening, I just cook and eat) has harvested radishes, green beans, zucchini, crookneck squash, and a lone ripe tomato. We have tons of green tomatoes on the vine, though, and cucumbers should be coming soon. Gotta wait until July for okra, my favorite. The bunnies have eaten up all the beets, which has driven DH slighty round the bend. He denies stalking the marauders, but I keep catching him out in the patch around dusk, for no apparent reason. "Waiting for the were-rabbit?" I ask. "Of course not, I'm just enjoying my garden." Uh-huh.

DH is very resentful of my harvesting green tomatoes, but I like 'em. Here's something different you can do with them:

Use perfectly green tomatoes that are still very firm. Cut them into bite-size chucks, and toss them with light sesame oil and minced garlic, and then with a generous amount of gomasio. Actually, I like to grind the gomasio to a fairly fine powder, so it coats better. Add some cayenne pepper if you like hot. Spread the tomatoes on a baking sheet and roast at 400 degrees. Yummy. Also good cold with a little tahini drizzled over them.

My DH does all the gardening too :-) (I despise mosquitos and bugs.)

In pots, we have basil, parsley, rosemary, and 3 varieites of tomatoes.
Planted, we have chives, lovage, green beans (string?), oregano (you can't kill this thing and it's taking over our yard!!), summer and winter squash and we just harvested our lettuce/spinaches.
Rhubarb comes in on its own annually and that was our first spring harvest.

We used to grow tons more but the deer have fat bellies and I only have anger.
