Interesting project. What do you think?

Now, THAT takes discipline . . .

^ lol!
That's from the scene at Coca Cola where they tried to "retire" her and she said "don't f*** with me, fellas" isn't it.

I know Joan would not approve!

And they called Yoko Ono crazy.

She's brave and expressing her ethics and values in a public way.

I'll admit, my first thought when I read this took me right back to my all girls high school where we had to wear a uniform, the same one every day. You can get pretty creative with a uniform if you really want to:-) but then thats always testing the boundaries, isnt it?
dorthea
I think the dress should have been red.
Armanis
yes, that's from the Pepsi Cola, board meeting: 'you don't know what hard feelings are, until I come out publicly, against your product . . . '

As for our 'little brown dress,' gosh I know it was being washed, but that poor garment has to be stinking, by now. Makes one realize how peoples' clothes have smelled, throughout history.

I give her credit for expressing herself. People have gone much further than that, to make statements. If they feel fulfilled afterward, so be it.
flowerlady
^ whoops! wrong soda! :-)

I think it's kind of interesing, the project that is. She talked about it freeing her up to think about other things than what to wear. And, that it was sort of a "reset", like we have talked about with perfume.
I'm thinking she smells fine, she washes it every day. Hmmm, but I could be wrong...

I'm thinking a red dress would have brought up more symbolism questions and maybe that's not what she was going for.

See, that's why this is cool. It makes me think.

I love crazya$$ artists. *GRIN*

Blue then?

Just not brown. So boring. :-)
Lady jicky
guess its like a uniform really. Could I do it? Nuh!
dorthea
I do think it's a funny idea, but........come on.......brown??
Jicky
I love brown and have heaps of brown in my wardrobe.

I think it may be a joke against the little black dress, that you are supposed to be able to wear anywhere. Good on her.

I'm sure she's travelled too - one thing you learn when you travel, is how to travel with the barest minimum of clothes necessary. It doesn't take long to get the hang of it either.

I agree with the travel angle, Jicky. But for me, it's the "every day you're somewhere else, seeing different people, so no one, other than you, knows you're wearing the same blessed thing every day". That's why I can tolerate it when traveling. But as much as I like the freedom of the uniform, and wore one for 8 grades in grammar school. I don't know if I could stick it out. I do tend to stick to a favorite pair of slacks each season and just rotate tops anyway. But as Everyone knows, Durango has been voted 'worst-dressed' town consecutively --- for Years !! ;-) so c'est la vie.

Maybe brown looks really great on her, and that's why she chose it? I luuuuuv brown, but it's not one of my best colors (I would have ended up having to wear a purple dress everyday...LOL!!)

I don't even like purple that well, but I do get compliments when I wear that color...
dorthea
Jicky and Nubka, I am sure brown looks good on you!

I must admit I dislike brown. I find it depressing and difficult to wear. I have only one brown item in my closet - a deep, dark chocolate brown jumper. My daughter wears brown all the time. To be honest I don't think it suits her very well.

Brown has been a fashion color the last couple of years, and maybe that's the reason for her choice. I agree that as an art project red or black wouldn't have worked so well.

What a great project!!!

I wonder how her young son will react the first time he sees Mommy without her brown dress. I wonder if he will cry from the shock!
estrajean
Oh my, that is a good question. It may rock her kid's world.

It all just makes me think of the people who used to sit on poles for days/months at a time...I don't know why. Perhaps it is all that repetition.
nubka
That's really true about her child. When my little boy was about nine months old, I colored my hair platinum blonde (I was previously a medium brunette.) Ian looked at me like he had never seen me before...like I was a stranger! It took him most of the day to warm up to me.
dorthea
Yes, I had the same experience when I had a haircut (from waist lenght to very short). My daughter was four months old, and she began to scream when she saw me. :-(
Fulltiltredhead
My mother had her long, dark, wavy hair cut short and permed tight once. My father literally flattened himself against the wall when they'd pass each other in the hallway.

Yup. The first year I spent in the Philippines, I wore exactly four sundresses. Then when one got chewed up in the laundry, I wore three. That was it for the entire year. Sure made it easy to figure out what to put on in the morning.

A few years later when I hit the road for about 6 months, I wore just a few pieces the entire time, all dark. I carried a small backpack and didn't want to lug around a bunch of clothing. I wore a couple of pretty scarves for a shot of color and style. Worked just fine, and no, I didn't smell.

That would drive me stark raving mad! I doubt she'll ever be wear anything brown ever again.
flowerlady
In defense of brown, I wear it (I have it on today as a matter of fact) and I look good in it. So ha. :-) But I'm a pale redhead, maybe that's why.
Demetrue
My clothes basically consist of chocolate brown, periwinkle blue and white ... I wear brown all the time in winter instead of black, which is too severe and not warm enough with my coloring.
glorious1
Don't get me wrong! I'm a redhead. Brown is fabulous on me.......along with all the other Autumn colors but if I wore ANY color for a solid year.......that'd be it!

I like the point this lady is making about consumerism. So many of us, and I include myself in this group, believe that we need lots of different outfits. Which leads to buying lots of different types of shoes/heel heights. Which leads to buying handbags to match the shoes - everyday, special occasion, evening, tote, summer, etc. Then, as if this wasn't enough, we have to buy makeup to match the outfits - can't wear coral lipstick with a red dress. And for us POLers this leads to buying lots of different fragrances to match our moods, outfits, season, etc. I remember when I was in school I survived all school year with just a few new outfits (mixing with clothes I already had), one new handbag, and one new pair of shoes. It never crossed my mind to have more than one handbag and one pair of shoes at that time. Now, I seem to have too many choices so I waste a lot of time trying to figure out which outfit to wear with which shoes, handbag, makeup, and fragrance. It's tiring just to get dressed most days! Honestly, some days I long for the time when there weren't so many choices to make. I applaud this lady's efforts to make her life simpler by living with less stuff.

Isn't periwinkle blue a great color? It's of my very favorites!

I think it has a soft, calming effect when I wear it - I kid you not!

I hope she washed that thing!! I think it is a cute style and she wore it lots of different ways.

I love this idea though I don't think I'd want to wear just ONE dress.

I do wear an awful lot of black, though - black trousers with a black jacket - a purple jacket - a red and black jacket - a black and white jacket, etc. It wouldn't bother me at all to wear only black trousers!
Fulltiltredhead
I've been wearing a lot of black and white, and even though the colors don't particularly suit me, I love it. I had an all black and white wardrobe for a few years. People convinced me to buy colors. Now I'm thinking I'm ready to go back to black and white. It just always looks good.
glorious1
Periwinkle is a GREAT color. It's a warm blue! It's good a lots of people.
