My apartment hasn't had power since Sunday, and it's going to rain for another 7 days.
This is getting a little scary!

Gosh, Fulltilt!! When we lose power, we have no water . . . I'd have to be using the outdoor hose . . . also, by this time, my basement would be flooded.

OMG, did you have to throw out everything in your fridge?
I remember the NYC blackout. All the candles I had were scented, and my apartment smelled very sickly sweet after those candles were burning for hours.

I hope your power comes on soon, FTR. I'm originally from DC and all my family and friends are back there. My mom has been saying it's bad but she's made it to work the last couple of days and doesn't seem too concerned. I think I'll check on her just in case.

Yes, and I had just had groceries delivered before I left for a weekend trip. A good $200.00 worth of meat in the freezer, never mind all the stuff in the fridge. Thank god I had one of those 50-count tealight bags from Ikea, although it looks like they're not going to last. 16 floors of people with no power.
ETA: From what I can get from online weather forecasts, looks like the worst flooding (of rivers flooding their banks) will be Wednesday night.

I'm sorry to hear this, Fulltiltredhead. I've been pretty fortunate so far but who knows how much longer. I will keep my fingers crossed that you get your power back.

Oh, Renee...stay high and dry, darlin'.
I see flooding and I start to freak out...and I'm freaking a little for y'all.
Between the fires and the flooding...it's all scary.
Stay safe!!!

Aww Renee...I'm sorry. What a sucky situation. Is there such a thing as a 'no rain dance'? I'll do one for your area!

I, too, am concerned about you folks. Stay safe and hang in there. One thing I learned from Katrina and power outages, I freeze bottles of tap water to prolong the contents of the freezer. Just filled bottles with tap water and leave them in the freezer.

DC is not alone. I just got a phone call from Goldengirl who lives in NE Pennsylvania. The flood gates in her community have been lowered and everyone has been told to evacuate by this evening. She and her family have moved as much as they can to the attic and are packing up valuables and animals and heading off to a higher elevation. I'll let her tell you which perfs are going along for the ride.
Good luck to all of you with weather related issues!!!!!
