Yesterday evening I got a call from a friend who needed me to pick her up at the emergency dept. of a local hospital. Turns out her brakes failed while she was exiting the highway, and she hit a pole at about 70 mph. She was airborne at the time (car hit a ditch and flew upwards).

The car, needless to say, was destroyed. But thanks to airbags -- which broke my friend's nose -- both she AND her dog, which was on the seat next to her, had no serious injuries. Incredible. I'm so grateful for this invention.

Oh I am so happy to hear your friend is OK - thank goodness for that, and for airbags, and for her dog being OK too!

Now THAT IS good news. Not many of us have had the opportunity (thank God) to see those suckers work! I'm so glad your friend and her dog are o.k. I know you are too!

A little before I got to POL, I was in an accident. Air bags, deflated ... it's an awesome sight, and experience.

I was in a congested area, teeming with cutoffs. The woman in front of me, claims she signaled to turn left; I didn't see her lights. She drove a tiny, Toyota . . . anyhow, I slammed right into her. Thank God, nobody was in the back seat . . . the driver was not injured. Nobody else, rode next to her.

I can still see the accident, like it was yesterday. The shock. The sensation of slow motion. There was nothing I could do. Contact was inevitable. HORRIBLE experience. The bags deployed AT ONCE. I was wearing a seat belt. Absolutely no injuries, but I did TEAR my cords!! I remember smoke, after the bags inflated . . . btw: the car was 'totaled.' A week later, I saw it on our driveway. The people who bought it, wanted to know if they could have our extra keys . . . they were thrilled by their new vehicle.

Good news...nice for a change. My vehicle has side curtain airbags so everyone's head is protected, too. I hope we never test them.
