Full Version: Even Old Supermodels Get The Blues...poor Christie!

Oh, the humilitation...Christie Brinkley's husband has been cavorting around the Hamptons with a 19 year old, what a jerk! Of course, she's tossed him out and now there will be a mega-circus of a divorce. I think this is divorce number 4 for the Uptown Girl...maybe she should have just stayed with Billy Joel.

It must be devastating to be beautiful, rich, successful, popular...and still have the old man catting around. What's a girl to do???? I think it's really hard to be an old supermodel...gotta hurt, don't you think?

Her husband right before this one was a loser as well.....too bad

Ain't it the truth, ain't it the truth...

Hey Larry, how do you like my new Joan glamor pic ??
Armanis
Love it, nubs . . . if I weren't married to number eight already, I'd find a gal who looked just like that, and marry her, instead . . .
susanwinters
Geez, Mietros...if you are on number five at age 50...what's left? The Liz Taylor Cup?

A shame, really...she still has that lovely all-American, girl next door look about her...she's very popular in the Hamptons for all of her charity work, too. This guy is a real pig...that girl was only 17 when he took up with her. He needs a good ######-whuppin'...somebody call Naomi Campbell!

Christie . . . give me a call . . . we'll think of something.
susanwinters
Oh, you crazy kids!!!! So, do you think it's better to be just some average looking, slightly dumpy nobody and have this happen...or do you think it's worse to be an aging supermodel somebody and make the front page? Personally, I would prefer to suffer humiliation in private, but hey, that's just me. $$$$, of course, helps. And the five oceanfront properties they own jointly.

Signed, Mrs. NotMakingThePost
Karin
In private, for sure.

All the glamour in the world isn't necessarily what it's cracked up to be.

I'm really sorry.

I have a theory about this. Mostly I don't go for Grand Design and Everything Happens For a Reason, etc. But I do think that supermodels whose husbands cheat on them were put on the earth to comfort those of us who are NOT supermodels whose husbands cheated on us. Whenever I think, "It was because she was prettier," all I have to do is think about Christie Brinkley or Cindy Crawford, or the legions of other very beautiful women who were cheated on despite their beauty. It's actually very freeing to realize that beauty is no guarantee, either, and to finally accept that there IS no guarantee.
susanwinters
Totally agree, Red.
nubka
Even with all the money and fame in the world, I'd hate for my dirty laundry/cheating husband to be front page tabloid news.

Sometimes it's good to just be one of the "little" people...
rockinruby
FTR, you are a wise woman.

It doesn't matter how gorgeous you are -- a shmuck is a shmuck and always will be.

Frankly, I think many women who become models or beauty queens are fundamentally VERY insecure about their appearance, and it can be draining to be around that much insecurity. We see them as gorgeous statues. They see every pimple and feel like imposters. I'm sure there's also a dose of reality that sets in for the man when he wakes up 1 morning and realizes he's over the thrill of "I bagged a supermodel" and he has to deal with the woman in bed next to him.

Count yer blessings and move along.
Lady jicky
Why oh why do they marry them! Live with the bastards then chuck them out. Even better, do not move them into your Fabbo house and just "date". He goes home to his shack and you go home to your mansion. Easy.
Demetrue
The 19-year-old girl kind of reminds me of the model Iman ...
Greta622425
Shouldn't he be in trouble for messing with a 17-year old? Even if he were not married, a 45-year old
man shouldn't be with a girl of 17.

According to the New York Post, Cook gave her gifts of cash totaling up to $1,500 per month - on top of her eventually $50-per-hour salary - as well as paying for her new Nissan Maxima and "jewelry all the time."

So she accepted cash, a car and "jewelry all the time" (her words) in exchange for sex? It''s not like she's claiming it was a "relationship" or that she was 'in love', merely that she knew he was married. They had sex and he gave her lots of cash and "jewelry all time". She said she was dating some guy throughout this whole thing, but he's finishing school elsewhere.

The more this girl speaks out in the press, the less sympathy I have for her. Has anyone seen her? She already has those big white fake teeth and I think she has an ulterior motive with her singing career.

There can only be one star in a marriage and those marriages seem to last longer if the man is the star. Male egos can't take being a second banana.

At least this girl was smart enough to take advantage of the schmuck and didn't delude herself into thinking she was in love.
sgupta4
And I just read something this morning about how he has done this exact same thing ten years ago just before he married Christie Brinkley. He was doing a nineteen year old who worked for him, gave him jewelry, and money. She claims that he even proposed to her but she turned him down due to their age difference. Immediately afterwards, he got engaged to Brinkley.

That is very true, Glo, BUT.....some people seem to have it happen over and over and over and over. I feel like "fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me!" Everybody makes mistakes, and no one can foretell how someone else will behave down the line....BUT... How can someone be married 4 or 5 or 6 or MORE times without taking serious stock and saying, "Self, WHAT are we doing WRONG?"

YEP! Her "picker" is broken.

Also............some men are so shallow they're just attracted to the prettiest and the sexiest.......these girls are beautiful but sometimes it backfires. Being beautiful is no guarantee. Obviously this guy was about as deep as a mud puddle. A 19 year old! Gimme a break.
sgupta4
In Style magazine did an article on them and their Hamptons home two or three years ago. The writer asked her what attracted her to him and her reply was this looks totally hooked her. He is definitely very handsome and their kids will no doubt grow up to be very beautiful. But nothing about his personality, values, etc. You know, the non-physical stuff.

Amen to that. I mean, if Christie Brinkley and Halle Berry are cheated on , then there is truly nothing a woman can do or be, no matter how beautiful, that will keep a man from cheating.

I wonder how long it will be before she marries again? She's a woman who cannot be single; she's very insecure, which probably has more than a little to do with her poor choices in men.

It's all over the front page again today...Samantha Cole was his prior teen lover. Honestly, this guy sounds like a predator. My ode to Christie:

Poor Christie
You're misty
Please don't cry
You're not 17
Former beauty queen
Here's mud in yer eye
Go find a guy
Tender and shy
Who's not a hound
He'll worship you
Stay true blue
Keep him around
The grey's in your hair
All worry and care
Wrinkles have arrived
Time for better choices
Wiser and cool voices
Else it's Divorce No. 5
scentual
The guy is a PIG. Samantha Cole was surprised that he proposed to Christie Brinkley because she said that Christie is old. Go figure.

I always figured if a guy would cheat on one, he'd cheat on another and he'd cheat on me.

That may not aways be true, but I felt it nonetheless. I know of some who seem happily esconced in marriage # whatever.

Thats why you just "date' them. You marry you have to hand over 1/2 ! Oh boy he must be enjoying this. Can you imagine his "Macho Meter" .

Her "picker is broken." LOL.

And the guy IS a pig. But the other woman here is not a sympathetic character either. Read in the paper that "she hopes this will not interfere with her plans to become a pop-star." Give me a break! She probably hopes this will launch her career! How else to explain the FOX TV interview? Why be so public about this?

Beauty, Shmyooty. All women are susceptible to Doggish behavior from cads like that. He just wasn't satisfied with being married to a grown woman, he had to have some young booty. That's what it boils down to.

Sickening. And Christie has a daughter just a couple of years older than that girl.

Very true, I agree with you...

When a man has an affair with a younger woman, it clearly shows that he is going through a mid-life crisis and wants to recapture his youth by seeing a much younger woman. The mistress is not so innocent and naive. She was a willing participant in this mess. If she's was so unhappy why did she continue to have an affair with him? She accepted all the gifts he gave her and accepted the job. She knew what she was doing. It was an ego boost for her. She thought that she was all that. Please, I don't feel sorry for the both of them.
Demetrue
She said the affair didn't happen until after she accepted the job and then she broke it off and he kept pursuing her, etc. I still think the wealthy 45 year old person pursuing and seducing a store-clerk teenager bears the brunt of the responsibility. Also, I think that this guy must have been very used to getting his way BECAUSE he was quite handsome - if he could get a gorgeous supermodel, then he could probably get any gorgeous woman and probably had many women throwing themselves at him. It's interesting that the other young woman also wanted to be a singer - sounds like a case of casting couch to me - Perhaps this guy picks out young woman and acts like he has the power to help their careers - he uses their vulnerability, naivite and career ambitions to get some teenage sex to stroke his insecure ego. Did you see how pained he looked in every photo with Brinkley? Even in their wedding pic ... he probably could not deal with being married to a woman more powerful than he was.
susanwinters
Totally! Check out Cindy Adams' most learned opinion on the subject:

Here is a Cindy Adams update on the not so innocent victim:

http://www.nypost.com/gossip/cindy/cindy.htm

Apparently she was never laid off from her toy store job and she is called " sexy and ambitious" by people who know her and that "she would mine anyone who could/should/would do something for her."

I know this Cook guy is scum, but this little girl is NOT so innocent.

I'm starting to think that maybe CHRISTIE is the problem. Or a significant part of it. But marriage is not for everyone, after all.
Casaque
This is one of the most inane threads I've ever seen posted here.

Suz, what does Christie Brinkley's age, have ANYTHING to do with anything??? Why in the world, is a not young woman, such as yourself, jeering at another middle-aged woman? You're not alone. This board skews "old", doesn't it? I'm guessing average age is well over 40. Lots and lots of wrinkles to go around.

And also REALLY inane - you guess she should have stayed with Billy Joel? Pray tell, why? He's got plenty of his own problems. My guess is, she had good reasons to divorce him, and has utterly no regrets over THAT piece of ancient history.

Peter Cook has a few screws loose. This isn't a case of adultery or middle-age crisis. If the young woman was a year or two younger, he'd be arrested and very likely convicted, of being a sex offender. He's an opportunist, a predator. He found a good target and successfully manipulated her to get what he wanted.

I don't see vilifying the young girl, who was 17 years old working as a store clerk, when he started sniffing around. Wasn't it, her PARENTS, who put a stop to this nonsense?? By getting her to quit her "job", and informing Christie Brinkley of the situation?

I see this mess as a tragedy. Christie and especially her kids, will need counseling for years and years. So will probably the young woman, that Peter cooked hired and diddled with.

He was a model in the early 1980's, actually 1981. The NYPost ran a picture of him along with Carol Alt, another model.

Here's a link to a good article about the whole affair:

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/07/18/...D8IUC7SO2.shtml

Here's another article and a pic of the teen:

http://www.nationalledger.com/artman/publi..._27267148.shtml

My tuppence:

I think there's enough blame to go around for everyone, and also enough empathy. Christie is clearly high-maintenance in addition to being beautiful, and is probably accustomed to being adored. She must pick men who adore her. But men who adore need to be adored in return, and if that doesn't happen, then that adoration turns inside out into loathing. Cook, clearly a pig, certainly needs his share of adoration. My sister, a wise woman, told me after my first husband left me (for a ghastly creature he met at a bowling alley), "He's not with her for what she looks like. He's with her because of how she makes him feel."

Wise, wise words, sis. :-)

And the girl? Well, hell, she's of legal age, but that doesn't mean she's capable of making very good decisions. It merely means that she's responsible legally for the mistakes she makes, and, boyohboy, is she gonna regret this doozy.
