Full Version: T.v. Chefs Wearing Rings

Is anyone else bothered by the sight of Paula Deen with her hands in dough, with her big ol' rangs covered in the same dough?! I first noticed this with Nathalie Dupree years ago, on her cooking show, and was just aghast.

I thought it was elementary that you remove any jewelry that gets near the food, especially bacteria-harboring pieces like rings.

It's hard to believe no one has brought it to their attention.

Aieee, Nathalie Dupree with the rings and the FINGERNAILS. With polish on them! And it seems like she just had to put her hands in everything she cooked.

You should write to Paula Deen's station and express your concern. I do think it's unhygenic!

I thought I was the only one who looked at these things. I know I always get grossed out if I see long fingernails on a chef.
VelvetSky
Yeah, that's definitely not hygenic.

I saw Martha Stewart upbraid her mother like a drill sergeant for wearing rings while preparing dough.

Actually, I leave on my rings when baking because I know I'll misplace or cook one and tizz out over it. I just wash my hands well before and tidy up the rings afterward - better than having everyone live through my panic.

Remember what happened to Lucy's ring, while she and Ethel were building a bar-b-cue?? I can't stand rings, on my fingers . . . or on my toes. Often times, though I use my elbows while cooking.

I hope at least you shave them first!

I hate the rings too. Have you noticed the TV chefs that flick their hair out of their faces ( I am thinking of one guy on a English show who is Italian and he has this greazy long flopping hair that falls in his face ALL the time- cut it!) . He brushes the hair away and then - presto - in that hand goes all over the food. He does it all the time. YUK.

What about Two Fat Ladies, the dark haired one had big rings and bright red long finger nails.
Lady jicky
Oh yes, she did too! Yuk

I notice that too with Paula. I think she likes showing off her new rock! LOL! The very first thing I do when I come in the house is take off my rings, watch, and bracelet. I then get into comfortable clothes. It's just my ritual. I would hate having rings on to cook with.

I must admit though. She has me wanting one of those thumb rings!!

I've always noticied TV chefs wearing rings. As TV isn't the real world, I have a feeling the TV chefs don't prepare food while wearing jewelry when they're home. They just want to look good while they're on TV. We don't see them washing their hands frequently either. It would cut into the program's time.

On the other hand, I find it annoying that cooks in real restaurants don't wear a tocque, cap or bandana while cooking. There have been a couple of times I've found -YUK!- a hair in my food. In the old days it was required by the health dept. that food service personnel keep hair under control and wash hands frequently.

Anybody besides me wear at least a headband if not a doo-rag in the kitchen?

A hair in my food makes me wretch! even if it's my own.
Lille My
sounds gross...

Now that you point it out, I have noticed some tv chefs wearing rings, but it didn't register in my brain!

I never wear a headband! NEVER. I understand what you mean.......I love to entertain and would not be caught dead in a headband.
